Veteran funnyman Conan O’Brien, who hosted a wildly successful late night television program in New York City, eventually moving to the Tonight Show in Los Angeles, California before finishing out his career with TBS has been named the host of the 97th Academy Awards.
Throughout his career, O’Brien has been known to appeal to a younger audience. Even to this day, those who enjoy his content are generally younger than those who continue to watch current late night stars such as Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Stephen Colbert.
O’Brien truly was the last of the late night show hosts who did not consistently inject his political views into his program, something that was greatly admired by his audience throughout his time on air.
The legendary late night host made his announcement in a video posted to The Academy’s Twitter/X page. The comic can be seen standing with an Oscar trophy, and says,
“This is incredible. I’ve been handed an Oscar. I’m an Oscar winner. It’s amazing.
Oh, I’m hosting. I’m an Oscar host. Oh, well, do I still get to keep the Oscar? No?
When is it? March 2nd? I’m hosting the Oscars? OK?
And then I get? Oh. Never. Ok. Never.”

O’Brien followed up on the video with a post on his own social media page. The 97th Academy Awards host said in that Tweet,
“America demanded it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.”
